Poetry Night at Eclectic (ft. Mia S. Willis)

It's National Poetry Month. Come celebrate at Charleston's dynamic poetry series The Unspoken Word.

We're celebrating with a monthly open mic at Eclectic Cafe & Vinyl. We invite you to bring your poems, songs, stories, and interpretive dance parties to the mic.

Open Mic starts promptly at 7:37pm. Open Mic Sign-Up List will be available at the front of the cafe. You can sign up early by emailign Say "Put Me on the List" in the email header.

Our feature for April's open mic is Mia S. Willis. Mia has worked primarily with performance-based poetry in the state of North Carolina since her introduction to the art in 2013. Mia graduated from East Carolina University in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and a Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies – Classical Civilization. Her first published poem in ECU Expressions Magazine, entitled "This Is A Chemical Burn," placed 3rd in the Poetry category of the 2015 North Carolina College Media Association Awards. The following year, Mia became the 2016 ACUI College Unions Poetry Slam Head-to-Head Haiku Slam Champion.

Mia's work has since been published in print by The Fem Lit Mag and SUGAR Magazine, and on video by Button Poetry. She is also a member of The Marquis Slam, a slam poetry collective that competes on both the regional and national levels each year.

When not onstage, she enjoys reading and watching Sherlock Holmes adaptations, mountain biking, and volunteering with her fellow Brothers of Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity.

All welcome. Bring your friendly neighborhood pirate, your best friend (also a pirate), and your pet parrot (for some reason, not a pirate). Also invite your friends, and LEAVE NO WORD UNSPOKEN.
